How We Design Your Underfloor Heating System Using LoopCAD

A well-designed underfloor heating system is about much more than simply laying pipe beneath the floor.

Pipe spacing, circuit lengths, heat requirements, manifold positioning, floor construction and available heated area can all affect how efficiently an underfloor heating system performs.

At Hydaheat, we use LoopCAD underfloor heating design software to create detailed system layouts based on the individual requirements of each project.

Combined with more than 12 years of underfloor heating experience and over 4,000 system designs, this allows us to create practical layouts designed not only to work on paper, but to make sense when they reach site.

From Floor Plan to Underfloor Heating Design

Designing the Pipe Layout in LoopCAD

Once the project information has been assessed, the underfloor heating system can be designed using LoopCAD.

Rather than relying on approximate pipe quantities or generic layouts, LoopCAD allows us to create a detailed pipe plan for the individual property.

The design can show exactly how the underfloor heating circuits should be arranged throughout each room.

The design considers:

✓ Pipe spacing
✓ Individual circuit lengths
✓ Manifold positioning
✓ Heating zones
✓ Pipe routing
✓ Available heated floor area
✓ Room-by-room system requirements

This provides the installer with a much clearer plan to work from when the system reaches site.

Why Pipe Spacing Matters

Pipe spacing plays an important role in determining how effectively heat can be transferred through the floor.

Closer pipe centres can generally provide greater heat output, while wider spacing may be appropriate where heat requirements are lower.

Rather than applying the same spacing throughout every property, the design can take the requirements of individual areas into account.

This helps create more consistent floor temperatures while ensuring pipework is being used effectively.

Keeping Circuit Lengths Under Control

An underfloor heating system is divided into individual pipe circuits connected to a manifold.

The length of these circuits needs to be carefully considered.

Circuits that are unnecessarily long can create additional resistance within the system and make hydraulic balancing more difficult.

During the design process, pipe circuits are planned within appropriate lengths while also considering the shape and size of each room.

This helps create a system that is easier to balance, commission and operate efficiently.

Practical Design From Underfloor Heating Experience

Software is only part of the design process.

Our CAD designs are produced by someone with hands-on experience installing, commissioning and troubleshooting underfloor heating systems.

That practical experience can make a significant difference.

The aim is to produce a design that works both technically and practically, which means we consider questions such as:

  • Is the proposed manifold position practical

  • Can the pipework realistically be installed as shown

  • Are there too many pipes travelling through a particular area

  • Are circuit lengths sensible

  • Will the layout be straightforward for the installer to follow

  • Could the design be simplified without compromising performance

Choosing the Right Underfloor Heating System

Not every property requires the same type of system.

Depending on the floor construction and project requirements, we can advise on suitable installation methods including:

Screeded Systems

UFH pipe installed within a new insulated screed floor.

Clip Rail Systems

Pipe secured using purpose-designed rails before the screed is installed.

Retrofit Systems

Low-profile systems designed to introduce underfloor heating where increasing the finished floor height needs to be kept to a minimum.

Suspended & Timber Floor Systems

Systems using appropriate panels or heat spreader solutions for timber floor construction.

Heat Pump Underfloor Heating

Systems designed with the lower operating temperatures commonly associated with air source and ground source heat pumps in mind.

Manifold Positioning & Heating Zones

The position of the underfloor heating manifold can have a significant effect on the overall pipe layout.

A well-positioned manifold can help reduce unnecessary pipe runs and make installation, balancing and future maintenance easier.

We also consider how the property will be divided into heating zones.

Individual zones can then be controlled using thermostats, actuators and the appropriate wiring controls, allowing different areas of the property to operate independently where required.

Your Design Becomes Your Materials Quote

One of the biggest advantages of designing the system before producing the final materials schedule is accuracy.

Once the LoopCAD layout has been completed, we can calculate the components required for the project and prepare a detailed quotation.

Depending on the system, this may include:

  • Underfloor Heating Pipe
  • Stainless Steel Manifold
  • Pump and Blending Controls
  • Pipe Fixing System
  • Thermal Actuators
  • Thermostats and Controls
  • Wiring Centres
  • Edge Insulation
  • Fittings and Connectors
  • Other Installation Accessories

Our Design Services

Designed Properly From the Start

Good underfloor heating performance starts long before the pipe is installed.

By considering the property, floor construction, heat requirements, available floor area, pipe spacing, circuit lengths and system controls at the design stage, many potential problems can be identified before installation begins.

At Hydaheat, we combine specialist underfloor heating design software with more than 12 years of industry experience and over 4,000 system designs to provide practical, carefully planned systems for homeowners, installers, self-builders and developers throughout the UK.

A correctly designed underfloor heating system can help provide efficient heat distribution, reliable performance and comfortable temperatures throughout your property. At Hydaheat, we provide professional underfloor heating design and CAD pipe layouts for qualifying system orders, helping homeowners, installers, developers and self-builders plan their projects with confidence.

Using specialist LoopCAD underfloor heating design software, we consider important factors including room heat requirements, available heated floor area, pipe spacing, circuit lengths, manifold positioning, floor construction and floor finishes. This allows us to create a detailed UFH pipe layout tailored to the individual property rather than relying on generic system designs or estimated pipe quantities.

With over 12 years of underfloor heating industry experience and more than 4,000 systems designed, Hydaheat combines technical design with practical installation knowledge. Whether your project uses a traditional screeded system, retrofit underfloor heating or a system designed to work alongside a boiler or heat pump, we can help specify the appropriate components and provide a detailed materials quotation.
